Lake Orion is a village located in Oakland County, Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the village had a total population of 2,715. The official motto of the city/township/village is "Where living is a vacation". Although the official population of the village is only 2,715, Orion Township's population is much larger and is generally considered Lake Orion. Lake Orion and its surrounding areas is one of the largest and fastest growing suburban areas in Michigan, greatly helped by the development of super-mall Great Lakes Crossing.
Lake Orion (or Orion Township) is home to Lake Orion High School, Bald Mountain State Park, Indianwood Golf and Country Club, Canterbury Village, The Scripps Mansion, and a General Motors manufacturing plant.
Jimmy Hoffa, Owen Martin and William Edmund Scripps are among those that kept residences in Lake Orion.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 3.3 km2 (1.3 mi2). 2.0 km2 (0.8 mi2) of it is land and 1.3 km2 (0.5 mi2) of it is water. The total area is 40.62% water.
